Volkswagen and Xpeng join forces in electrification. The German giant has in fact decided to collaborate with the Chinese one in the creation of new project houses with the long-term goal of accelerating the development process of a new architecture dedicated to electric vehicles: in fact, these are structures where engineers from both companies will be able to work together.
Volkswagen and Xpeng together for electrification
The new factories in question will be built in Guangzhou and Hefei, China. As mentioned, we are dealing with warehouses that have the purpose of helping the two companies involved in the collaboration to start within a couple of years the production of a jointly developed architecture, a process that also includes the configuration of electronic components, modules and networks within a vehicle. It is no coincidence that Ralf Brandstätter, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG for China, announced that from 2026 all electric vehicles of the German brand in the Asian country will be equipped with this very powerful and efficient architecture.
New electrical architecture
The plants, Reuters reports, are part of an agreement between the two parties, in which Volkswagen plans to use its new architecture dedicated to intelligent and electric vehicles to produce its own battery-powered vehicles. more economically accessible in its largest target market. Recall that Xpeng entered into a partnership with Volkswagen last year, when the German giant acquired 4.99% of the Chinese company for approximately 700 million dollars with the idea of jointly launching two Volkswagen-branded electric vehicle models by 2026.
