The former Italian ambassador to Moscow: “In the face of the threat to Ukraine, we have a united position, of firmness, of deterrence measures but also of openness to dialogue”.
“On issues such as relations with China, the fight against climate change, the Arctic and stability in the enlarged Mediterranean we cannot ignore Russia because it can play a decisive role in each of them”, said the former Italian ambassador to Moscow is now head of the Directorate for Public and Cultural Diplomacy at the Farnesina Pasquale Quito Terracciano in his speech at the Transatlantic Forum on Russia organized by the Center for American Studies, Aspen Institute Italia and the European Council on Foreign Relations.
“In the face of the threat to Ukraine, we have a united position, of firmness, of deterrence measures but also of openness to dialogue”, he added. “Faced with this situation, the Russian aggressive attitude towards Ukraine, the West must have the ability and the strength to insist on the path of dialogue” with Russia, and propose instead of a ‘new Yalta’, a ‘new Helsinki’: “To start an in-depth negotiation that finds a point of decline that can restore security and stability to the whole of Europe”.
