The tennis player Novak Djokovic was quite happy after confirming that he will play again in the coming days, at the Dubai ATP, after the Australian Open scandal.
In fact, as he told the Serbian press, all the controversy that his resistance to vaccination has caused represents one more reason to fight to be the most successful in history.
Djokovic’s motivation
“I’m glad I can play again on Monday (…) I miss tennis after everything I’ve been through”the Serbian tennis player told the press during a visit to his country’s pavilion at the Dubai World Expo.
His rejection of the covid-19 vaccine led to him not being able to participate in January at the Australian Open, the first major tournament of the season. That started, among other things, a legal affair and the final victory of the Spanish Rafael Nadal, great rival of Djokovic in the struggle to be the tennis player with the most Grand Slam in history.
Djokovic assured that what happened gives him “one more reason to play better than ever and want to win a ‘Grand Slam'”as he declared to the public television of his country (RTS).
One more reason to play better than ever
The tennis player plans to participate in the Dubai ATP Tournament, which will begin next Monday. In the United Arab Emirates, the vaccine is not mandatory for visitors.
In an interview with the British chain ‘BBC’, the Serbian was willing to “pay the price” of not being able to play so as not to contravene his convictions against the vaccine.
On his participation in the following tournaments, Djokovic said: “It will depend on the countries in which the tournaments are played; I will be prepared and I want to continue my career“.
The world number 1 reiterated that he does not plan to get vaccinated, although he did not rule out doing so in the future: “I have an open mind… Everything is possible in life, we will see how the situation evolves, but for the moment I have decided not to do it” and he regretted “that they associate me with certain initiatives” in relation to the anti-vaccine movements, he said in the last interview with the ‘BBC’.
