The United Arab Emirates welcomed the signing of the framework agreement between the Sudanese parties, noting that it opens a new page through which the Sudanese people will proceed on their path towards the desired security and prosperity. It also called on international partners to support Sudan’s economy to avoid its collapse.
Amira Al-Hafeti, Deputy Permanent Representative of the country to the United Nations, in a statement she delivered before the session of the UN Security Council, welcomed the United Nations Integrated Transitional Support Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) with the signing of the “political framework agreement” and the regional and international praise it received, expressing her hope That this agreement opens a new page, following which the Sudanese people will proceed on their path towards the desired security and prosperity.
She stressed that the next stage requires building on the current momentum to ensure a sustainable political agreement, by doubling efforts to bridge the rift between the parties and consult on outstanding issues, especially since matters depend on their timing.
The statement stressed the importance of continuing to involve women in consultations to ensure that their needs and priorities are reflected in the transitional period and beyond, stressing the importance of giving priority to the language of dialogue and wisdom for the benefit of the brotherly Sudanese people.
The statement also stressed that the success of the transitional phase in Sudan requires the international financing institutions to resume their programs and the continuation of international partners to support the Sudanese economy to avoid its collapse at this important stage, especially with the persistence of inflation, high levels of unemployment and the accumulation of external debt.
He said, “The need for such support increases in light of the worsening humanitarian conditions, as communities still suffer from difficulty in obtaining basic commodities, as well as the severe damage caused by the severe floods that some areas witnessed recently.”
The statement stressed the importance of containing tribal tensions and preventing their recurrence, saying: “We followed with concern the recent tribal clashes in the states of West Kordofan and Blue Nile, to which Sudan sought to respond by taking a number of measures to calm the situation, including through the work of a fact-finding committee.”
Regarding the developments in the situation in Darfur, the statement stressed that the local reconciliation agreements have proven their importance in continuing to support stability in the region, noting that the valuable contributions of the Permanent Ceasefire Committee have had a great impact on achieving progress in implementing the transitional security arrangements for Darfur in accordance with the Juba Peace Agreement. In this context, he stressed the need for the international community to provide the necessary support to Sudan to complete the implementation of all provisions of the Juba Peace Agreement.
At the end of the statement, the UAE expressed its sincere wishes for success to Sudan during the completion of the transitional phase, in a way that meets the aspirations of its people to achieve stability and prosperity, stressing that it will continue to follow up the efforts of the mechanism with the Sudanese parties during this important period.
