The shooting of Järvenpää|The shooting in a restaurant in Järvenpäää in April was a showdown between two groups that knew each other, the police say.
Eastern Uusimaa the district court has imprisoned two men who were suspected of shooting Järvenpää.
Another of the men, a well-to-do man born in 2002, was imprisoned on Tuesday. The man born in 1992 was imprisoned on Friday last week.
Both arrests went peacefully, says the head of the investigation, inspector Jukka Kalliomäki from the East Uusimaa police.
“Both were wanted and were caught when they came into contact with the police in other contexts,” says Kalliomäki.
A woman born in 2002 living in Järvenpää is also suspected of the shooting. He was arrested by the police only a few days after the shooting. However, the number of suspects may still increase.
“We are still investigating the involvement of others in the incident.”
The information from the district court shows that the younger man has been imprisoned on the most probable grounds of attempted murder and firearms offences. A woman and an older man have been imprisoned under the same titles and are also suspected of aggravated assault.
Situation started on Saturday evening, April 20, at restaurant Roze on Wärtsilänkatu. After eight in the evening, the police received a report that several shots had been fired in the restaurant.
Two people were seriously injured in the situation and were taken to hospital. One’s gunshot wounds were more serious than the other’s. Both survived, but the police will not comment on the state of health of those involved.
The case involved a showdown between two groups that knew each other. According to the police’s current information, the background is previous disputes related to people’s personal relationships. The incident is not suspected to be gang-related.
Another party became a victim in the situation when the suspects’ party arrived at the restaurant.
“We investigated the suspects as a group, who set out together to carry out the suspected acts,” says Kalliomäki.
The police believe, in light of the current information, that the suspects’ party had at least two weapons. One was a long-barreled, rifle-style weapon and the other was a pistol-style weapon.
However, bystanders, such as restaurant staff and customers, were also present in the restaurant at the time of the shooting. Bystanders were not injured in the situation.
Police is still silent about the details of the events at the restaurant, as the preliminary investigation is still ongoing. Some of the interrogations have yet to be completed.
For example, the police are still investigating the mutual role of the members of the party, how many shots were fired in total and who all used the gun. For example, Kalliomäki does not take a position on who in the group is the main suspect.
