Qatar had expected an influx of 1.2 million visitors during the tournament, which lasts for about a month and ends on December 18.
It is unlikely that there will be a significant increase in the number of visitors during this stage, with only 8 teams remaining in Doha and 8 matches out of 64, in the tournament that began last November 20.
The organizers had earlier set the peak period for foreign guests to be from November 24 to 28 during the crowded group stage, when 32 teams were in Qatar, with 4 matches per day.
The report issued on Wednesday was prepared by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, which organizes the tournament, and said that the first 17 days of the World Cup witnessed the attendance of 765,859 foreign visitors, more than half of whom have now left.
The report recorded 1.33 million tickets to watch the matches and 3.09 million tickets sold across the eight stadiums in Qatar during the tournament.
It is expected that more visitors will flock to Qatar to participate in mass matches, after the authorities lifted entry restrictions to their lands for citizens and residents of other Gulf countries.
Earlier, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) said that attendance at stadiums in Qatar exceeded the rate during the similar period in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
