Kiev court closed case of Berkut dispersal of Euromaidan
The court in Kyiv closed the case of the dispersal of Euromaidan by the special police unit “Berkut”, dropping charges against its commanders in connection with the defense’s petition due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, reports Ukrainian edition “Public” (“Suspilne”).
“The petition is granted and the accused are released from liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations,” the court quoted the judge as saying.
It is clarified that the suspects in the case were the ex-head of the public security department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyiv Oleg Marinenko, two former deputy commanders of the Kyiv Berkut regiment Andrey Didyuk and Nikolai Tyahniryadno, as well as the commanders of the fourth and third companies of the Kyiv Berkut Yuri Shevchenko and Evgeniy Antonov.
About 170 people were considered victims in the case, but only two victims participated in the trial, since many had gone to the front.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the events of the coup in Ukraine in 2014, known as Euromaidan, did not bring the country closer to democracy and progress.
