Pashinyan: at least two CSTO countries helped Baku in preparing for the war in Karabakh
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accused “at least two countries” of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) of helping Azerbaijan during clashes in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020. At the same time, Pashinyan did not specify which states he was talking about.
These countries created an imitation of helping us, but I want to say that that war was not about Nagorno-Karabakh, it was about making Armenia not represent anything
Armenia still remains a member of the CSTO. In addition to it, the organization includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

The State Duma explained Pashinyan’s words
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Konstantin Zatulin explained the words of the head of the government of the republic are that Pashinyan is trying to shift all responsibility for losing the war with Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh onto Russia.
Pashinyan is a liar and a scoundrel who is trying to direct the anger of the Armenian people towards Russia, having failed and lost everything that his predecessors and the entire Armenian people fought for for many years
Armenia froze participation in the CSTO and refused to pay the fee
In February, Pashinyan announced the freezing of the republic’s participation in the organization. He argued this by saying that “the collective security agreement regarding Armenia was not implemented, especially in 2021-2022.”

After this, Armenia announced that it would not pay a contribution to the CSTO in 2024. The statement came on the day when Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan arrived in Moscow for the summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the same time, the organization itself emphasized that Armenia remains a member state.
Pashinyan himself statedthat the CSTO, instead of fulfilling its obligations to Armenia in the field of security, creates problems in this area. “If we have now de facto frozen our activities, then if the issues are not resolved, we will do it de jure, but what remains for us?” – he emphasized.

CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov, commenting on the hypothetical possibility of the republic leaving the organization, noted that this is the country’s sovereign right. “Secretariat analysts indicate that the balance of power in the South Caucasus may change if Armenia leaves the CSTO,” he said.
At the same time, Tasmagambetov emphasized that the CSTO adheres to its obligations to Armenia, despite the decision of the republican authorities to suspend participation in the association’s events. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov notedthat the Russian authorities are ready for dialogue with their colleagues from Armenia on the issue of further membership in the CSTO, both in the format of dialogue between countries and within the organization.
