Stoltenberg calls Afghanistan and Ukraine his main failures as NATO Secretary General
Outgoing NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg named his main failures and achievements in office. He spoke about this told in an interview with CNN.
According to Stoltenberg, the conflict in Ukraine and the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan are his failures as Secretary General. He named “strengthening NATO’s collective defense” as his main achievement. “The world has become much more dangerous in 10 years, but NATO has become much stronger,” Stoltenberg concluded.
Following Stoltenberg’s resignation, former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will become NATO Secretary General. He will take office on October 1. The official handover ceremony will take place on the same day.
Earlier, Politico reported that Stoltenberg would become chairman of the Munich Security Conference after his resignation, with his appointment expected in February 2025.
