Sinner fires physiotherapist Naldi and physical trainer Ferrara, involved in the Clostebol case
Jannik Sinner has decided: physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi and athletic trainer Umberto Ferrara will no longer work with him. According to what LaPresse has learned, the decision that was in the air was taken by the Italian before his debut at the US Open, where the two now ex-members of his staff are not present. A decision that seemed inevitable after the case of his positivity to clostebol emerged publicly in recent days and already closed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency with his acquittal and the only cancellation of the points won by Sinner in Indian Wells. The contamination involuntaryas confirmed by Itia itself, occurred during a massage given to Sinner by Naldi, who had treated a wound on his finger with an ointment purchased from Ferrara.
Jannik’s athletic trainer, Umberto Ferrara, 55, from Bologna, purchased the drug on February 12 at the ‘SS Trinità’ pharmacy in Bologna. On March 3, physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi, while looking for something in his work bag, injured his little finger on his left hand with a scalpel used to remove calluses. The finger remained bandaged for a few days and Ferrara subsequently recommended that Naldi use ‘Trofodermin’ as the drug has healing and antiseptic properties. Between March 5 and 13, Naldi performed multiple massages without gloves, both partial and on the inside of the body, on Sinner for what was later classified as transdermal contamination. Jannik, however, will have to wait until midnight on September 6 to find out whether any body – the World Anti-Doping Agency has already announced that it will examine the Sinner case – will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne against the acquittal sentence by Itia.
