One more year and now there are twenty-six, San Pedro del Pinatar is on the flamenco map thanks to its Flamenco Festival Tribute to Camarón. Level and quality is not lacking and it was demonstrated on Saturday night at the gala that took place at the Fairgrounds of the town before more than a thousand souls.
The night started with the bailaora from Las Torres de Cotillas, Cynthia Cano, a posh bailaora, whose range of flamenco dances were executed with elegance and mastery, demonstrating the strength and beauty of her art. The guests to sing at such a notorious celebration were the young Reyes Carrasco, only 16 years old, with a flamenco presence and identity whose cante was spiced up by guitarist Niño Sebe. He also recounted the clapping of Manuel Bellido and Juan Carrasco and the long-awaited and endearing collaboration of his mother, the cantaora María José Carrasco, Mining Lamp of the 2018 Las Minas Cante Festival, which drew applause from the faithful audience.
Heating up the night was followed by Duquende from Sabala, discovered at the age of eight by Camarón de la Isla, who demonstrated his nature as a singer and featured José Fermín Fernández on guitar. And, finally, Capullo de Jerez, free, natural and authentic, who performed before a dedicated audience accompanied by Ramón Trujillo on guitar, José Ubichi clapping and Jesús Flores ‘El Tripa’ on percussion.
The San Pedro del Pinatar Flamenco Festival, a tribute to Camarón, is a commitment by the Department of Culture that continues to maintain quality and the effort to preserve a living art, encouraging the demand of a loyal public and establishing itself as the starting gun for the flamenco festivals in the Region of Murcia.
