Genoa – Kirvil Odden, Norwegian goalkeeper of Sampdoria Women, has decided to tell her story on the occasion of March 8 and International Women’s Day. Thirty years old, married to Charlotte, she has a son named Aksel and has always been committed to defending human rights, especially those of the LGBT community. «Women’s football is an open environment in this sense – she explains. It is normal for a woman to be with another woman. Many think there are no problems and personally I have never encountered any difficulties. Unfortunately, however, there are still those who do not accept it ».
«I am saddened by the fact that in some countries – continues the Sampdoria number 12 – there are not the same rights that we have, for example, in Norway. And I think it’s important to fight for those women so that they can live the same life that I can live. It’s really sad that you go to prison or are murdered because you love another woman.’
Odden has set itself a precise objective: «Sensitize people, explain to those who don’t understand. I’m always available to answer questions about my life, how we had a baby and stuff like that. We are two women raising a son and we think he will grow up like everyone else. Our son knows he has two mothers: this is normal for him, just as it is normal for one of his kindergarten classmates to have a mother and a father. The most important thing is to talk about it and make it normal.”
The goalkeeper concludes with his wish for the future: «I dream of the day when women will have the same chances as men. Whether it’s in terms of salary, job opportunities, being the head of an important company. There must be equality. I hope that in time we will come to have the same opportunities. And I hope that the girls and boys of tomorrow will see that there are no limits for women.”
