Italy-Hungary, Tajani: “Salis case violation of community rules”
“This time it seems to me that we have gone too far”, it is a “violation of community rules” and “not in harmony with our legal civilisation”. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said this on Radio Anch'io on the case of Ilaria Salis.
“Lawyers must ask for house arrest in Italy,” he said. “The Minister of Justice is following the case day by day: Minister Nordio met the father” of the prisoner brought to the courtroom in foot and hand chains. The Farnesina has summoned the Hungarian ambassador in this case – the minister recalls – and Tajani has announced that our ambassador in Budapest will once again go to protest at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We have already talked about it with the Hungarian government: I talked about it and also delivered a document on the matter asking for vigilance on the matter” he added. “We cannot compromise on respect for the person” Tajani specified. “But first house arrest must be requested there,” Tajani explained.
Hungary: Renzi, Meloni call Orban for Ilaria Salis
“Giorgia Meloni must call Orban, immediately. It is unacceptable that an Italian girl, Ilaria Salis, is kept handcuffed on a leash like a dog in a Hungarian prison.” Matteo Renzi, the leader of Italia viva, claims this in his editorial in Il Riformista. “We don't know if Salis is guilty: we know that Hungarians must respect the dignity of man. And they aren't doing it. And whoever stays silent is complicit in a clear violation of the rule of law. If she really is a friend of Orban , Meloni must make himself heard. If he isn't, also. Salis's ideas don't matter: all of us, starting with Berlusconi and continuing with myself, have brought people home from tangled situations who had ideas opposite to ours. So what? if there is an Italian kept on a leash in a Hungarian courtroom, the sovereignist prime minister must be indignant, immediately”, he continues.
