Rescuers evacuated 59 people from a broken funicular in Antalya. The TV channel reported this on April 12 TRT Haber with reference to a statement by the city's governor, Hulusi Shahin.
“Fifty-nine people were evacuated from 10 cabins, including 18 by helicopter. The evacuation of 14 cabins continues,” he said.
It is noted that a member of the rescue team was injured during work and was taken to the hospital.
Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said on social media that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was “closely monitoring all developments related to this painful incident.”
Health Minister Fahrettin Koca on his X (formerly Twitter) page reported one death and ten injuries as a result of the incident.
The Antalya Chief Prosecutor's Office has launched a judicial investigation into the incident.
Earlier, on April 12, the IHA agency reported an accident on the funicular in Antalya. The incident occurred on the 605-meter cable car going up the mountain from Konyaalti beach. Currently, its work is temporarily suspended, rescuers are evacuating other passengers from the cabins.
