Protesters against Israel invaded this Monday (3) the lobby of a building in San Francisco, in the United States, where the country’s consulate is located.
According to information from the Associated Press, police arrested several protesters. Although an official number was not released, the AP reported that at least ten people were detained.
According to the consul general of Israel in the Pacific Northwest, Marco Sermoneta, the protesters did not enter the consulate offices, which informed those seeking its services that they would need to be rescheduled.
Protesters remained at the scene for several hours before police began making arrests. Photos and videos posted on social media showed protesters shouting the slogan “Free Palestine” and hanging a banner with the message “Zionism kills”.
Also this Monday, according to the AP, the building of a law firm with Jewish partners, Goodman Acker, was spray-painted in Detroit, in the US state of Michigan, with messages such as “Free Palestine”, “Divest Now” (or that is, a request that the office’s services not be contracted) and “UM kills”, in reference to the University of Michigan.
One of the partners, Jordan Acker, is an administrator and lawyer at the University of Michigan; he described the act as anti-Semitic.
“This has nothing to do with Palestine or the war in Gaza or anything else. It was a message to scare the Jews. I was not targeted here today because I am a manager [da U.M.]. I’m the target of this because I’m Jewish,” Acker said.
