Plants|In the next few days, even a hint of pollen may spread even more to the whole of Finland.
Last In the past week, a large amount of fragrant pollen from southern Europe has traveled to a large part of Finland, says the University of Turku in its press release.
Frankincense is a plant related to the gorse, whose highly allergenic pollen can travel thousands of kilometers in the air.
“Similar concentrations have only been measured a few times in Finland. It seems that the amount of pollen in Finland is also increasing,” says the project researcher in the press release Maria Louna-Korteniemi About the University of Turku’s pollen information.
In the next few days, even a hint of pollen may spread even more to the whole of Finland. Tuaksokki prolongs the pollen season in Finland, because it blooms late in late summer and early autumn, when the flowering of the native custard apple has mostly finished.
The beginning the plant is originally from North America, but has spread from there to Europe. Here it is a harmful alien species.
According to the release, ragweed is spreading rapidly in Europe, and in addition to its allergenicity, it is also a troublesome weed for agriculture.
Finland is located so far north that ragweed is not yet established here, but individual plants are still found every year, according to the University of Turku. Some seeds are transported to Finland mainly among bird seed mixtures. Because of this, the plant is most likely to be found near the bird feeding place.
“As the climate warms, the plant is expected to gradually become more common here as well,” says Louna-Korteniemi.
Except for the long-distance transport of the scent, the pollen season will end in Finland within a couple of weeks, according to the release.
