Brazil once again had a great journey at the Paralympic Athletics World Cup, which is being held in Kobe (Japan) to remain at the top of the overall medal table. With the achievements achieved this Saturday (18), the Brazilian team reached a total of 11 podiums (six gold, four silver and one bronze).
One of the highlights of the day was Cícero Nobre, from Paraíba, who won his second world championship in the F57 javelin throw event (for athletes who compete sitting down). The world title guaranteed the Brazilian a place in the next edition of the Paralympic Games, which will be held in Paris (France), as the gold medal in World Cups is one of the classification criteria drawn up by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB). However, all athletes need to wait for confirmation through the official call-up, which will be held by the first half of July.

“I try to do in the competition what we plan in training. I came to this race with the aim of breaking 50 meters. So, it was an excellent race and with the most important thing: the gold medal and the place for Paris 2024. We are now looking for the 51 meters, the world record to continue with our evolution”, he declared.

Also securing a gold medal was the sprinter from Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Mendonça, who won the 100 meter race in the T37 class (cerebral palsy). “I managed to get the exit right, I developed a good race and we achieved this good mark, with another title. Last year’s World Cup is very special because it was the first. This now has another weight, being in Japan again [após os Jogos de Tóquio] and be able to repeat the feat. But the emotion will always be the same. I am really happy. Anything can happen in Paris 2024 and I want more”, said Ricardo.

The World Cup in Japan will be held in the same year as the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games after the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) asked the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to postpone the World Cup, which would be in 2021, due to cause of the coronavirus pandemic.
