The Serbian, former world number one, was playing his 127th final on the ATP circuit and adds the Tel Aviv trophy to the other two achieved in 2022, the one he won in Rome on clay in May and in July on grass at Wimbledon. The other final played this season, in April in Belgrade, he lost.
At 35 years old, Djokovic is having an atypical season, marked by your refusal to be vaccinated against covid-19which prevented him from being in several important events, especially in two of the Grand Slam, the Australian and United States Opens.
Since his Wimbledon title, Djokovic had not played in an official match until last week’s Laver Cup in London.
“It has been a really special week, I have felt at home with all this support from the public”, declared Djokovic.
“I’m sure we’re going to keep fighting all these young guys for a long time.”
Then, in a gesture of support for wheelchair tennis players, the Serbian dared to play sitting on one of these support media.
