The escalation of the war in Ukraine it is leading to an exacerbation of the condemnations of the international community against Russia, which is increasingly sanctioned not only at the political-economic level, but also with regard to the sports universe. After the exclusion of teams or athletes of Russian nationality from most of the world competitions – with related cancellations of the events that should have been held in Russia – Formula 1 is also implementing various maneuvers to oust the representatives of that nation from the World Cup 2022. Among these, there is the possible removal of sponsors, teams and pilots as early as next championship. If this move were to be implemented, it would be Haas who would suffer the most from it, which would lose its main sponsor – Uralkali – in one fell swoop and Nikita Mazepinofficial driver of the American team.
If the 22-year-old from Moscow were therefore forced to leave F1, the hottest name to replace him would be Pietro Fittipaldi, already present in Haas in the role of reserve driver. However, the Brazilian would not be the only candidate for the seat of the stars and stripes car. According to the latest rumors, the Ukrainian crisis could open the doors to other drivers as well, including one who recently lost his seat in the top flight: Antonio Giovinazzi. The Apulian, currently engaged in Formula E after his exclusion from Alfa Romeo at the end of 2021, has nevertheless remained in the orbit of the Circus for his role as third drive in Ferrari – which it has maintained since 2017 – with the Scuderia supplying its engines to Alfa Romeo and Haas. In addition to this, the latter could welcome the possible return of the 28-year-old, who would make the tricolor reappear in the top flight as the new teammate of Mick Schumacher. Giovinazzi, among other things, already had the opportunity to collaborate with Haas in the course of his experience in F1, having also held the role of third driver.
