Farmers are again taking disruptive actions on Tuesday to prevent the government’s nitrogen plans from being implemented. Hay bales have been set on fire along several highways, leading to kilometres-long traffic jams on, for example, the A12 between The Hague and Utrecht, reports Rijkswaterstaat† According to the Farmers Defense Force (FDF), farmers also plan to go to the House of Representatives from 12 noon.
“On June 28, we will give a face to halving the livestock. Make it clear for which choices farmers are made by the sickening policy of this cabinet,” according to a statement distributed by FDF spokesman Sieta van Keimpema, according to the ANP news agency. On Tuesday, a vote will be held in The Hague on various motions submitted during last week’s nitrogen debate.
Also Monday, several farmers left their yard to demonstrate. They blocked several highways through the country with their tractors, after Farmers Defense Force chairman Mark van den Oever, among others. called for new protests against the nitrogen policy. In the evening, farmers again appeared on the doorstep of Minister Christianne Van der Wal (Nature and Nitrogen, VVD). However, it turned out that he was not at home, after which the farmers left again.
