Minister rejected request for release of former PRF director; he is investigated for alleged interference in the 2022 elections;
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), gave 30 days for the PF (Federal Police) to conclude the investigation against the former director general of the PRF (Federal Highway Police) Silvinei Vasques. The decision is due May 3rd.
Moraes rejected the former PRF director’s request for release. He is being investigated for alleged interference in the 2022 elections. The PGR (Attorney General’s Office) was also against Vasques’ release. The delegate who handled the case left the case after it was transferred to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
Silvinei Vasques has been in prison since August 2023. He is being investigated for raids carried out by the PRF in Northeastern states during the general elections and for publishing messages in support of the former president’s candidacy Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on social media.
