Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentine national football team, said that Inter Miami, competing in the American Professional League, will be the last team to play for him. The striker added that he feels “some panic” at the idea of the approaching day when he decides to retire. Messi, the 2022 World Cup winner, has a contract. He is with Inter Miami until 2025 after joining the team last summer, following a stint with French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
“Inter Miami will be my last team,” Messi told ESPN Sports Network. I like to play football. I enjoy everything more, because I realize that I have very little time left, I am not ready to leave football. “I’ve done this all my life. I love football, and I enjoy training every day and the matches. Yes, I always feel a little afraid that it will all end.”
Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, is preparing with his country to defend the Copa America title in the tournament that begins on June 20 in the United States.
Argentina will play its opening match against Canada, before facing its rival Chile in Group A on June 25, then playing against Peru four days later.
