lThe main Venezuelan opposition leader, María Corina Machado, said this Monday that the international community, in particular all European governments can do “much more” in favor of democracy in Venezuela when there are about 48 days left until the presidential elections.
In this sense, he reiterated that the decision of the National Electoral Council (CNE) to rescind the invitation to observers from the European Union It is “a very negative sign of what the regime may be up to.”
During his intervention, Machado also stated that another presidential victory for Nicolás Maduro could give way to a greater wave of migration in the country.
I want to warn you that if Maduro intends to remain in power, the hard way, what we could be seeing is the largest wave of migration in the history of Venezuela.
And he added that, in his opinion, if the opposition wins, it will not only “stop migration,” but Many Venezuelans will return to their country “willing to build it together.”

“Never has Venezuela been prepared and determined to advance in the conquest of its freedom like today,” he emphasized in reference to the opposition candidacy of the Democratic Unitary Platform.
It is a unique opportunity in recent decades, Machado said, because never before has the Maduro government been in a situation of similar “fragility.”
On the contrary, “in recent times we have seen how it has violated the agreements previously signed within the framework of Barbados,” he added in reference to the negotiation table between the Government and the opposition.
There are 48 days left and I am convinced that the best option for everyone, including Nicolás Maduro, is to start a serious negotiation, which can give them institutional safe conduct and guarantees for all actors.

To questions from senators, he pointed out that we have to “press much more” so that the Chavista government reconsider the decision to revoke the EU’s presence in the elections, given the great reputation of European observation missions, he assured.
Several opposition members residing in Spain attended the commission and later met with the president of the Senate, the conservative Pedro Rollán.
