A marabou flight from the Canary Islands to Munich has become a farce for many holidaymakers. Especially the hours and days afterwards.
Munich – It was the dream vacation on the Canary Islands for a German tourist couple, but this caused quarrels days after their arrival. 29 year old Chris (Name changed by the editors) formulated the situation as follows: “It’s unbelievable impudence what’s going on.” The couple arrived at their destination airport in Munich, but what followed shortly before and long after was anything but pleasant. After the marabou trip, the recovery was gone again.
Condor flight is operated by Marabu – but the disaster for holidaymakers only follows after landing
On the evening of May 10th, the Condor flight was supposed to leave Arrecife for Munich, and the first trouble followed during the online check-in. Without informing the travelers, Condor rebooked the two of them on Marabu, its sister company. That’s why checking in via the internet doesn’t work as intended. What followed might remind some of the summer vacation of 2023. Marabu took off an hour late, the passengers sat on the plane without an announcement from the pilot or crew and knew nothing.
After arriving at Munich airport, the later departure wouldn’t have been so bad if everything had gone smoothly, but that’s where a telephone-email marathon began that the two of them will remember for a long time. At the baggage conveyor belt at 12:30 a.m., the eyes of over 100 passengers grew wide because only ten suitcases crossed the conveyor belt, then it stopped. The victim at Munich Airport was a customs officer who called in a baggage handler after intensive inquiries.
“The plane is empty”: At 2 a.m., Lanzarote tourists received bitter news in Munich
“I searched the plane and it is empty, it flew to Munich without suitcases, all modules have been searched and there is no luggage on board,” it said at 2 a.m. A number of phone calls followed the following morning. On May 11, the airline referred them to Munich Airport, which in turn transferred responsibility to the airline. They also learned that the luggage would be sent home as soon as it arrived at the airport.
Another traveler also vented her anger on Trustpilot: “We were left standing at the moving baggage carousel without any information. When you call the discovery site or Marabu you are brushed off without any information. Would never fly with the airline again and would also avoid Condor. We are really very upset and if the luggage doesn’t show up, we’ll be more than angry.” The next straw for the Munich couple was to try their luck on May 12th at the comparison and travel portal through which the vacation was booked. “You can send something, but it probably won’t be processed immediately, just acknowledged,” it said, according to the 29-year-old. The loss report, which was made the night after he arrived at Marabu, also remained unprocessed until May 15th.
Even three days later, on May 15th, there was still no sign of the suitcases. Calls followed again to Marabu, Munich Airport and even Arrecife Airport. The only information that really helped them: “We’ll take care of luggage if there’s something lying around,” says Chris, quoting Munich Airport. The suitcases had not arrived by May 16th. As a cherry on top: “When we filed a lawsuit, we were supposed to attach pictures as evidence. How am I supposed to add evidence of something I don’t have?” Chris adds almost helplessly: “Unbelievable cheek. So bad and unprofessional.” (ank)
