His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, appreciated the unlimited support of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, for the sports sector in Dubai, and His Highness’s praise of the distinguished performance of Dubai clubs during the 2023 sports season – 2024, which ended with Al Wasl Club being crowned with the double of His Highness the President’s Cup and the ADNOC Professional Football League title, stressing the aspiration of the Council and the sports system in Dubai for more achievements at the continental level.
His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “We are pleased with His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, for the performance of Dubai clubs and their competition for all season titles in various sports, and their achievement of winning the most important titles.”
His Highness added, “Dubai clubs occupy an essential part of supporting the wise leadership and the work of the Dubai Sports Council, which works to develop the work system at the level of team results and also at the level of the quality of administrative work and optimal investment of resources, as well as at the level of the academic sectors, attracting and developing talented people, investment, and others. With the results achieved during the 2023-2024 sports season at the level of various sports and categories, which the Council monitored in the performance report issued at the conclusion of the sports season, and with our appreciation for the achievements achieved, we aspire to achieve more in proportion to the support of the wise leadership and the available capabilities.”
This came during the Dubai Sports Council Board of Directors meeting, which was held at the Council’s headquarters, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and in the presence of His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, and council members His Excellency Maryam Al Hammadi, Hala Badri, Moza Al Marri, and Jamal Al Marri. The meeting reviewed the most important results achieved by Dubai club teams in all sports during the past season, where His Highness the Chairman of the Council appreciated the efforts of the clubs’ boards of directors, administrative and technical bodies, and athletes, which contributed to achieving achievements in all sports, in addition to the football championship titles achieved by Al-Wasl, Shabab Al-Ahly, and the Al-Ahly Championships. His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviewed the study of the economic impact of sports in Dubai, which showed the growth achieved in this field, as the contribution of sports to Dubai’s gross domestic product in the 2014 study amounted to 6 billion dirhams, and the value increased in the 2016 study to reach 7 billion dirhams, then it continued to rise to reach 8.5 billion dirhams in the 2018 study. It also reached 9 billion dirhams annually in the study conducted by the Council in 2022, and all studies and figures issued by it were conducted by international expert houses.
His Highness, the Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, directed that a new study be conducted on the economic impact of sports, to be implemented this year, to measure the growth achieved in this field, especially with the increase in the number of companies, academies, and international organizers working in Dubai thanks to supportive government legislation, quality of life, issuance of golden residency permits, and the availability of integrated infrastructure at the level. Sports and tourism facilities, stadiums, and providing the Dubai Sports Council and government agencies supporting all means of success for them and supporting the growth of their businesses. The 2022 study included the sports sector’s contribution of 9 billion and 78 million dirhams annually to Dubai’s GDP, which constitutes 2.35% of the annual GDP, as well as the contribution to providing 105,000 job opportunities in companies operating in the sports sector and companies related to this sector.
The meeting reviewed the performance report in implementation of the policy of attracting and developing sports talents in Dubai for the period 2023-2033, which aims to make Dubai a global center for discovering and attracting sports talents, as the initiatives and programs launched by the Dubai Sports Council continue to attract and develop sports talents in various sports and for all nationalities, and in cooperation with Various sides.
The 2023-2024 sports season witnessed many programs in this field, and the performance report that was presented at the meeting included detailed figures about the performance of academies and sports events designated for talented youth, in whose various competitions more than 55,000 junior athletes participated, most notably: – Dubai Schools Games, which 8,500 male and female students from 140 schools participated in it, competing in 20 sports. – Local and international academy championships: There were 12 championships in which 14,292 male and female athletes representing 263 academies participated and competed in 6 games in which they played 3,130 matches.
The report included the registration of 400 operating academies in Dubai in 50 sports, including 11 academies for international football clubs: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Ajax Amsterdam, Greek Olympiacos, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and LaLiga. The Spanish, Argentine Federation Academy, where the presence of the academies of these international clubs enhances the attraction of sports talent in light of the presence of work teams and coaches from the best international sports schools in football, in addition to the work of local academies affiliated with sports clubs. During the meeting, the Board of Directors reviewed the report of the Women and Sports Committee, which included numbers and data on the extent of development and growth witnessed by women’s sports in Dubai, and the efforts of the Dubai Sports Council to contribute to the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and support the vision of the Dubai Women’s Establishment for Dubai to be a global model for women-friendly cities. . The official sporting events for the period 2020-2023 witnessed the participation of more than one million women of all ages, representing 120 nationalities, who participated in 926 events in 55 sports, including 22 international and 23 local events.
