German airline Lufthansa announced on Monday that it will once again offer free drinks in economy class on short- and medium-haul flights this summer on a trial basis.
This decision comes three years after the company canceled providing free drinks to economy class passengers on almost all short-haul flights. Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa, had previously announced in several media interviews the experimental return of free drinks to economy class in the hope that this would increase customer satisfaction. Lufthansa said today that selected drinks such as tea or coffee will be available for free in economy class, noting that customer reactions will be recorded as part of ongoing customer satisfaction analyses.
Lufthansa ended the free economy class service in the summer of 2021 and replaced it with offers that require additional fees. Economy class passengers on Lufthansa flights still receive a free bottle of water and a piece of chocolate. Hot drinks on board the company’s flights cost between 3 euros and 3.5 euros, while tomato juice costs 3.20 euros.
