The BBVA Foundation has revealed the names of the 58 researchers and creators selected in the XI edition of the Leonardo Scholarships. This program to support science and culture promotes innovative projects in ten different areas, ranging from Basic Sciences to Literary Creation and Performing Arts.
Leonardo Fellowships, aimed at professionals aged between 30 and 45, allow for the development of personal projects with flexibility. This approach enables recipients to manage their research or creations independently over a period of 12 to 18 months, enhancing their impact on the scientific and cultural community.
The 2024 call for proposals attracted 1,423 applications, evaluated by 83 experts who formed part of ten committees, one for each category. The evaluation committees have selected projects ranging from the detection of gravitational waves to the preservation of material and immaterial culture in the performing arts. Of those selected, 35 are men and 23 are women, with an average age of 39 years and extensive international experience.
The Leonardo 2024 Scholarships consolidate their beneficiaries in the Leonardo Network, a community of excellence that already has 660 members since the creation of the program in 2014, with a total endowment of 24.7 million euros throughout its eleven editions.
