All the main political forces of the center-right coalition ask the Democratic Party to “clarify” the funding provided to 'Agenda', the association founded in 2022 by the American environmentalist and former electoral guru of Barack Obama, Jessica Shearer, and three other members of the Democratic Party, by Democracy & Pluralism, a Swedish foundation chaired by the entrepreneur Daniel Sachs, 'vice chair' of the Open Society of the tycoon George Soros. The story was reported last week by Adnkronos in an investigation.
During the Montecitorio session on 23 April, it was Lega deputy Stefano Candiani who spoke on the case in the Chamber: “The fact that there is interference by a foreigner or a foreign foundation that puts money into Italian politics to influencing the democratic life of the country, I believe it is a topic on which Parliament must question itself, because the mechanism by which this funding arrives is opaque and must be clarified”, remarked Candiani, calling into question both Copasir and the executive: ” The Committee for the Security of the Republic must intervene and the government must take an interest in the issue. Because it is not acceptable for certain information to pass through the newspapers and remain like water flowing on marble”, the words of the Northern League parliamentarian.
The issue was raised today in the parliamentary chambers by Forza Italia group leader in the Senate Maurizio Gasparri and Fratelli d'Italia deputy Antonio Baldelli. The president of the Italian senators presented a question to the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi: for Gasparri, we read in the text, “it would be useful to delve deeper into the links and influences of the Italian left in reference to Soros and his activities extended throughout the world”, and for this reason the owner of the Interior Ministry is asked if the facts exposed occurred “in compliance with the procedures and legislation in force”.
Baldelli of Fdi instead highlighted how “numerous exponents of the Democratic Party and Avs have received substantial funding, we are talking about over 1 million euros, from associations linked to the financier George Soros. Among these names – continued Baldelli – that of the deputy Nicola stands out Fratoianni, financed for over 110 thousand euros, by the deputy Grimaldi but also by the former minister of the Conte 2 government and now deputy of the Democratic Party, responsible for Foreign Affairs for the PD itself, Giuseppe Provenzano”.
The exponent of Fratelli d'Italia recalled “how Soros was the author of speculative attacks against the lira and other European currencies and how today Soros is the financier of the activities in the Mediterranean of many NGOs that transport migrants to Italy. And coincidentally – he underlined – the same deputies financed by Soros are the ones who defend the activity of these NGOs here”.
“Only some time ago, MP Provenzano violently attacked Matteo Renzi, demanding an account and reason for the funding he received from another foreign entity, in this case from Saudi Prince Bin Salman, evoking reasons of political expediency and national interest. I I refer to the same considerations as MP Provenzano: those considerations that Provenzano used as a cudgel against Renzi but which today he does not use towards his party colleagues and, ironically, not even towards himself”, concluded Baldelli.
