For Ultimo the experience in Sanremo could not be repeated, after the fourth place in this edition with Alba. After the second place four years ago, behind Mahmood, with the harsh dispute with journalists, the Roman singer-songwriter had decided to get back into the game and return to the Festival. A way, as he himself had said, to “close the circle”.
“I know that there are more ‘direct’ songs on the album that would have reached that stage more easily, but Alba is a different song, which doesn’t claim to enter the heart of a more distracted audience. Alba needs time and should be listened to without haste. As I said in some interviews, I wanted to go back to Sanremo to close an artistic circle, and if I had done it with another song it wouldn’t have made sense. I’ve always given precedence to what I feel and not to what works,” Ultimo said on Instagram, explaining his decision to return to the Ariston.
Then he added: “I also said it in the interviews before the Festival… I wanted to close a circle with Alba, I did and so I don’t think I’ll ever go back”. So is it goodbye?
