The Italian Medicines Agency announced, on Wednesday, that it had authorized the vaccination of children between the ages of 5 and 11 years, with the “Pfizer/Biontech” vaccine against the Corona virus.
Children in that age group receive one third of the dose given to adolescents and adults. Under the agency’s advice, children will receive two doses of the vaccine three weeks apart.
Although the symptoms of corona are significantly less severe in children, the Italian agency indicated that vaccination is still useful because it allows them to go to school and participate in activities, which is important for their development.
According to the currently available data, the vaccine has been shown to be very effective and safe.
About 87.5% of people over the age of 12 in Italy have received at least one dose of the Corona vaccine so far.
The authorities recorded about 15,100 infections with the Corona virus yesterday, Wednesday, and just over 100 deaths within one day.
