Iran called on Muslim-majority countries to take “practical and more serious actions” to address what it called Israel’s “crimes” against the “civilian population of the Gaza Strip.”
The call was made by the interim Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Alí Bagheri, who in a telephone call with the secretary general of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, this Thursday (13), expressed his “concern” about the Israeli offensive in the city of Rafah, in southern Gaza.
Bagheri highlighted in the call “the efforts of some countries”, including South Africa, which are “seeking to bring Israel to international justice through a genocide process at the International Court of Justice”.
Furthermore, the Iranian regime’s foreign minister mentioned the initiative of “several Latin American states” to cut ties with Israel. In recent months, Colombia and Bolivia, both governed by the left, have taken this initiative.
Bagheri reiterated on the call the call for an extraordinary meeting of OIC foreign ministers to “put pressure on Israel to cease its ‘atrocities’ against the Palestinians.”
For his part, the OIC chief condemned what he called “Israel’s continued criminal acts in Gaza” and also emphasized the need for “practical steps” to confront Israel.
Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip was launched after terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas and other Palestinian groups against its territory, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and 240 kidnapped.
