“Kommersant”: in the case of General Popov there was initially another person involved, who died during the SVO
In the case of the ex-commander of the 58th Army of the Russian Armed Forces, Major General Ivan Popov, there was initially another defendant, also a general, who died during a special military operation. Information about this discovered “Kommersant”.
The publication’s source did not disclose the officer’s name, but he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia. It is noted that he is considered the organizer of a scheme to steal and sell metal structures worth 130 million rubles. Now Popov is charged with theft with causing damage; he has not admitted his guilt.
The structures were allocated for the construction of fortifications in the Zaporozhye region. The reason for involving the ex-commander of the 58th Army in the case was the receipt from the first defendant of 500 thousand rubles, allegedly received for the illegal sale of metal. At the same time, Kommersant’s interlocutor stated that these funds were lent to Popov.
Earlier it became known that the former commander of the 58th Guards Combined Arms Army was not released from the pre-trial detention center. The court left the appeal without satisfaction. The major general was taken into custody on May 21.
