In Belarus, it was forbidden to cut the carcasses of birds in stores due to the fight against rising prices
The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus held a meeting with the heads of poultry farms and retail chains, where they announced a ban on cutting poultry carcasses for sale, informs MART press service in his Telegram channel.
Selling individual parts of carcasses is now only allowed if they have been cut by the manufacturer. The reason for such a ban was an attempt by sellers to bypass the decree banning price increases, signed by President Alexander Lukashenko.
The head of state himself drew attention to the trick. Bird carcasses went to stores, where they were cut and sold in halves for more than they could sell the whole. In this regard, MART prohibited the establishment of prices for half carcasses in such a size that they together were more expensive than one carcass. The cost of other parts of the carcass should not exceed the cost of the carcass increased by 10 percent, only the fillet may be more expensive by 15 percent.
Earlier it became known that dozens of criminal cases were initiated for violating Lukashenka’s decree against entrepreneurs who allowed prices to rise. Security forces and officials check the selling price and the cost of goods not only in retail chains, but also in convenience stores.
According to the estimates of the National Statistical Committee of Belarus, in September inflation in the country on an annualized basis reached 17.4 percent. According to Lukashenka, the main reason for this state of affairs is speculators and businessmen who are trying to get super profits. The President is confident that the market economy is inferior to the planned approach that was practiced in the Soviet Union.
