Gunzburg did not see the need to change Sputnik V due to the FLiRT option
There is no need to change the composition of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine due to the FLiRT virus variant discovered in Russia, says Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology. His words lead RIA News.
“Based on the official data we have today, there is no need to update the vaccine,” the specialist said.
In his opinion, it will be necessary to observe how the vaccine will act against this variant of COVID-19, and then make the necessary decisions to adjust the composition, if necessary. Gunzburg recalled that the spectrum of antibodies that a person produces after vaccination with Sputnik V is wider than after other drugs.
The fact that the FLiRT coronavirus variant was identified in Russia became known on Wednesday, May 22. As Rospotrebnadzor clarified, omicron remains the dominant strain in the country, but monitoring has made it possible to identify even isolated new genovariants.
Immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov previously warned about a possible surge in the incidence of the FLiRT virus variant. According to him, surges will first begin in the United States and Europe, and after a short period of time they will come to Russia, but they will not be too large-scale.
