The German national team began its era with its new coach, Julian Nagelsmann, with a major victory over its host, the United States, 3-1, in the American city of Hartford, in a friendly international football match, eight months before it hosted the European Cup.
The United States was the first to score through Italian Milan striker Christian Pulisic, specifically in the 27th minute, with a wonderful powerful shot from the edge of the area, but “Die Mannschaft” responded 12 minutes later, through its captain, Barcelona’s Spanish midfielder Ilkay Gundogan (39).
Germany scored two goals in the second half, through Borussia Dortmund striker Niklas Volkrug (58), and Bayern Munich playmaker Jamal Musiala (61).
It is the first victory for Germany in the first match under the supervision of Nagelsmann, who was appointed three weeks ago, succeeding Hansi Flick, who was “dismissed” from his position due to disappointing results, the last of which was the loss to Japan 1-4.
Flick became the first German coach to be fired last September, after a series of five matches without a win, which followed his disappointing exit for the second time in a row from the group stage of the World Cup.
Germany will play a second friendly match in the United States next Tuesday against Mexico in Philadelphia.
It is the second victory in a row for Germany, after the first at the expense of France, runner-up in the World Cup in Qatar, 2-1, when its technical management was temporarily supervised by its former star, Rudi Voller.
