The refugee situation on the border between Belarus and Poland is a matter of concern. This was announced on December 14 by a source in the office of the German Chancellor.
“The situation on the border of Belarus is very risky, Belarus is demonstrating inhuman behavior,” he is quoted as saying “RIA News“.
He added that the purpose of the EU summit on Thursday will be to continue putting pressure on Belarus and solidarity with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.
On December 2, the United States, Canada, Great Britain and the EU called on the Belarusian authorities to stop “organizing illegal migration” across the EU borders. On the same day, the United States introduced a new package of sanctions against Belarus. According to the above list, the new measures affected 20 individuals, 12 organizations and three aircraft.
On December 4, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced on December 4 that the new sanctions against the republic are illegitimate and inhuman in nature due to their negative impact on the life of Belarusians.
A day later, the Prime Minister of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko, indicated that an economic war had been unleashed against the country and “absolutely adequate” measures would be taken in response.
On December 7, Minsk, from January 1, 2022, introduced a food embargo on a wide range of goods from the EU, USA, Canada, Norway and other countries. The decree does not apply to goods imported by Belarusians for personal consumption, baby food and a number of other items of critical import.
The situation with migrants on the border of Belarus and neighboring states worsened in early November. A large group of refugees came to the border in the forest belt. The migrants cut barbed wire at the border of the two countries and asked to be allowed into the territory of the European Union.
The European Union blamed Minsk for the incident, which denies any involvement in the increase in the flow of refugees. In Poland, they announced a tough attack on the border for the first time in 30 years.
