The show is organized by the governorate in cooperation with the Bolshoi, the Mariinsky and the St. Petersburg Theater in El Gouna.
The “Aida Opera” is related to the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869; Where the Egyptian Opera House and several other facilities were established specifically to hold the activities of the opening ceremonies, in the presence of a number of European leaders at the time.
Khedive Ismail commissioned the Italian composer Verdi to set the music for the opera Aida for 150 thousand francs in gold, and the design of the décor and work clothes in Paris cost 250 thousand francs. But due to the delay in the arrival of the clothes and decorations of Opera Aida from Paris, it was not shown in the celebration, and an Italian international group presented it instead of the opera “Rigoletto” on the stage of the Opera House.
The opera Aida was performed for the first time in 1871 on the stage of the old opera house, and Verdi was unable to attend, and it was shown in Europe for the first time at the La Scala theater in Italy in February 1872.
fictional story
“Opera Aida” is a fictional text, written by the French Egyptologist Auguste Marin, but it has nothing to do with the history of ancient Egypt with regard to the events of the story, and does not depend on a real historical fact, but it talks about a person named Radamis, who embodies the role of the Egyptian army commander during his war With the Ethiopians, and defeats them, but he falls in love with an Ethiopian captive, refuses to marry the daughter of the Egyptian ruler, and thinks of escaping with Aida.
The lyrical dramatic story is interspersed with scenes, dance paintings and musical songs, spread over 4 chapters that embody the conflict between duty and passion.
It performs and sings in the role of Aida soprano Maria Biankina, in the role of Radamis Akhmat Agadi, the role of the Egyptian ruler Alexander Markev, the role of Ramvis Gevorg Grigoryan, the role of Armenis Irina Shishkova, and the show is directed and produced by Anton Bloom.
Not the first
Although the opera Aida is famous for its connection to the history of ancient Egypt, it was not the first opera to be inspired by the history of Pharaonic Egypt. It was preceded by Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, which was first shown in Paris in 1801, under the name “Secrets of Isis”.
Then came the opera “Moses” by the Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini in 1827, and the opera “The Prodigal Son” by “Daniel François Esprit-Hubert” in 1850.
