A work commission will be in charge of designing the proposal for the Region to host the 2030 World Cup; at the end of the year it will be known if she is chosen
The Spanish Football Federation (FEF) already has the fifteen venues that aspire to be part of the Iberian candidacy between Spain and Portugal to try to organize the 2030 World Cup. In this way, a process is opened that should outline the final list of fourteen venues , eleven of them Spanish, since the Da Luz and José Alvalade stadiums in Lisbon and Do Dragao in Porto are fixed as Portuguese representation.
The Santiago Bernabéu and the Metropolitano, in Madrid, aspire to overcome the cut; the Camp Nou and the RCDE Stadium, in Barcelona; La Cartuja in Seville; the New Mestalla in Valencia; San Mamés in Bilbao and Anoeta in San Sebastián, in the Basque Country; Riazor and Balaídos, in La Coruña and Vigo, in Galicia; La Romareda, in Zaragoza; El Molinón, in Gijón; La Rosaleda, in Malaga; the Enrique Roca stadium in Murcia and the Gran Canaria, in Las Palmas.
A list outlined after the first work meeting held yesterday between the FEF, autonomous communities, city councils and representatives of the clubs in the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas, which exudes the aroma of that unforgettable summer of 1982, with the only World Cup played in Spain.
Before the end of the year it will be known whether the Region of Murcia is finally part of Spain’s candidacy. To achieve this, next Monday the work commission created to design a solid and viable proposal that allows it to become an official headquarters will meet for the first time.
The Minister of the Presidency, Tourism, Culture and Sports, Marcos Ortuño, who attended the meeting in Las Rozas yesterday, said that “we know the roadmap that we must comply with and the work that we have to develop to bring our project to a successful conclusion” . Ortuño was confident in “the strengths that we can offer to be a viable and attractive venue.”
The counselor described the meeting as “very positive”, in which the Murcia City Council and the Real Murcia Club were also present. “We believe that the more autonomous communities that make up Spain’s candidacy, the better represented the plurality of the State will be,” he added.
Among the strengths presented by the regional candidacy is the hotel plant, as well as having a modern stadium such as the Enrique Roca, where the necessary reforms can be carried out. In addition, it is necessary to take into account the excellent communications, both through the road network and, above all, through the Region of Murcia – Juan de la Cierva airport and the connection with the high-speed railway, which although it does not exist today, must be up and running by then.
