Fashion|Aalto University’s fashion students presented their final works at the annual Exhibition on Thursday.
Wave-university master’s student Petra Lehtinen received the Näytös24 award at the traditional fashion event organized on Friday.
The recipient of the award was chosen by an international jury, which included a Finnish designer Antti Keikkia Belgian jewelry and accessories designer Stephanie D’heygerea visual consultant Annabelle Fernandes and director of Alpha, an organization that supports emerging designers By Ane Lynge-Jorlé.
As part of his work and his collection, Lehtinen did research on what kind of clothes people keep in their wardrobes without wearing them. Only such clothes have been used in the collection.
According to Raadi, Lahtinen’s collection is an indication of a thoughtful approach to sustainable development and modern consumption. The collection reminds us to think more closely about the life cycle of clothes.
In addition, the jury awarded the Exhibition prize for the first time this year, which he received Venla Elonsalo. The award is related to the new Näytös24 exhibition, which is part of the event as a new part in addition to the traditional fashion show.
At the event numerous other prizes were also awarded.
Lauri Greis received both the Konstsamfundet association and the Fiskars award Karelian Sportlore from its collection. The idea for the collection was born from the national costume of the former Antrea municipality located in South Karelia, which Greis inherited from her grandmother. The clothes combine sports technical materials and national costume influences.
The Fiskars jury praised the collection for, among other things, the successful combination of practicality and beauty, as well as the contemporary look.
The Marimekko prize was awarded Jere to Vilo. Nakits with eyes – collection plays with hot dog buns. The idea was born when Vilo was thinking about what he would do for work, if not fashion. Running a hodari kiosk came to mind.
The collection receives praise from Marimekko for its concept, materials and humor.
Espoo the museum of modern art received the award given by Emma Enni Lähderinnewhose collection stems from personal experiences.
Lähderinte has hereditary Scheuermann’s disease, or so-called rickets. For years she wore a brace that straightened her back. A large metal jewelry designed by Lähderinte creates the illusion of a convex back.
“I wanted to treat the bra in a respectful and beautiful way, even though wearing it can also be a grotesque experience”, he told HS before the day before the screening.
The award of the city of Espoo went For Minerva Skyttäwhose knitted creations are inspired by the old letters of an ancestor who worked as a missionary.
The award was decided by a youth panel consisting of Espoo residents aged 16–20, mentored by a fashion designer Ervin Latimer.
