See the Red Bull emblem on Aston Martin Racing? Yes, it will happen this weekend at the Mexico City Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel will sport a helmet dedicated to Dietrich Mateschitz, co-founder of Red Bull.
The Austrian billionaire, who died less than a week ago while Formula 1 was busy racing the United States Grand Prix in Austin, was one of the people who had the greatest impact on the German driver’s career.
Having come just a few races from retirement, Vettel wanted – with the team’s authorization – to pay homage to Mateschitz by presenting himself in Mexico City with a helmet entirely in Red Bull colors. A sort of replica of the can of the energy drink, complete with a red bull symbol on the sides of the helmet.
This is the exact copy of the helmet that Vettel has used since Red Bull followed him at the beginning of his motorsport career, but also in the first seasons in Formula 1 (especially his debut with BMW, when he replaced the injured Robert Kubica), studded with the four consecutive world titles achieved from 2010 to 2013.
In a short note that appeared on Twitter, the Aston Martin team supported Vettel’s choice, the one linked to the helmet in Red Bull colors and with the symbol of the Austrian brand clearly visible, joining him in remembering what Mateschitz was not only for his business, but above all for what he represented for Formula 1 in the modern era.
“Dietrich Mateschitz was a pioneer and legend not only of Red Bull Racing, but of our sport. As a tribute and a sign of respect, Sebastian Vettel will use this weekend to one of his original and iconic helmets, with an unmistakable livery. Aston Martin staff, thank you Didì “, reads the Aston Martin statement.
This weekend, however, a cold shower has also arrived for the Silverstone team, but expected. The FIA has imposed a fine of $ 450,000 for procedural violations related to last season’s Budget Cap. The Federation, however, has recognized the mitigating factor of the lack of malice in the actions of the team headed by Mike Krack.
