GELSENKIRCHEN. At least two injured and seven arrested: this is the outcome of the clashes between English and Serbian fans which gave rise to a brawl near a restaurant in Gelsenkirchen, a few hours before the match between the two national teams for group C of Euro 2024. According to as reported by the Daily Mail citing sources from the German police, who were forced to intervene in riot gear to break up the brawl, the injured people were an English fan and a policeman.

Seven Serbia fans have been arrested, the local police announced, specifying that one of those arrested is accused of “dangerous bodily harm”, while no details were provided about the others. The local press, and in particular ‘Bild’, reports that “several English supporters” were stopped after a riot in a pub which left some injured. For now, no confirmation has been received from the police.

The videos released by the English tabloids show some hooligans fighting with rival fans, even throwing chairs, in front of the venue decorated with Serbian flags. The German police intervened and took away several fans, some of whom had bleeding faces. There would also have been a throwing of stones and glasses. There are 20 thousand English and 10 thousand Serbian fans present at the stadium for a match already considered a high risk for public order.
Entry banned in Dortmund for Italian fans stopped yesterday against Albania

According to the German authorities, the group was apparently looking for a clash with the Albanian fans. Italian fans were taken into custody and then released last night, after the final whistle of the match.
