Etna, Coldiretti: “After a year of ash in the countryside, the costs are unsustainable”
After the resumption of Strombolian activity from the south-east crater, a few days after the anniversary of the first strong eruption, that of 16 February 2016, the Coldiretti he threw a double alarm. On the one hand, a year of ashes on the countryside caused fear, damage to crops, additional costs and inconvenience for the extraordinary cleaning of company structures, drainage channels and rural roads.
On the other hand, there is a further demonstration that it is not an emergency but a structural change the behavior of the volcano, which requires a new approach in the prevention and safeguarding of agricultural entrepreneurs, who are burdened with the increasingly frequent and onerous costs of extraordinary cleaning.
Also Brontethe city of pistachio par excellence, was covered during the night between 10 and 11 February from a thick blanket of volcanic ash, so much so that the mayor Pino Firrarello issued an order to “limit the dangers” prohibiting the “circulation of motor vehicles, mopeds and, in any case, of all two-wheeled vehicles in the town and on all roads owned by the Municipality up to cessation of the dangers posed by the presence of volcanic ash on the roadway “.
