The former president's lawyer, Fabio Wajngarten, mentioned leaks and “selective” sources in a post on his profile on X
The former president's lawyer Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Fabio Wajngarten, said that the “embarrassment strategy” carried out by press vehicles about investigations related to the alleged organization of a coup d'état “it won’t prosper”. The publication mentions a report from CNN Brazil on the testimony of former Army commander and retired general Marco Antônio Freire Gomes.
“Selective leaks, selective sources on a sunny Saturday. The defense is technically and formally constituted in the case files completely in the dark. The strategy of embarrassment via the press may seem opportune, but everyone should know that it will not prosper”wrote Wajngarten on Saturday (3.Mar.2024).
The publication of CNN says that Marco Antônio Freire Gomes confirmed, in a statement to the Federal Police, that he had attended meetings where the terms of the call were discussed “minute of the coup”. The testimony is kept confidential.
According to a PF report, General Freire Gomes and the commander of the FAB (Brazilian Air Force), Brigadier Baptista Junior, would have resisted the idea of a coup d'état. However, in the document, the corporation says it is necessary to advance the investigations to investigate possible omissive conduct by the military.
In conversations obtained by the PF, Walter Souza Braga Netto, candidate for vice on Bolsonaro's ticket, called Freire Gomes a “shit” upon learning that he did not agree to participate in the alleged coup d'état plan.
