The 45-year-old truck driver who was involved in the accident in Nieuw-Beijerland has to be detained for two more weeks. The examining magistrate determined this on Tuesday, reports the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam. Six people died in the accident. The Spaniard is suspected of causing the traffic accident with fatal and serious physical injuries.
The investigation is still ongoing, the Public Prosecution Service said. The suspect is in restriction and may only have contact with his lawyer. The cause of the fatal accident is not yet known. Police said on Sunday that the man had not been drunk at the time of the accident. His blood was taken to see if he is taking medication, the results of which are not yet known. The police are also trying to investigate whether he was distracted shortly before the accident.
The truck drove off the Zuidelijkedijk in Nieuw-Beijerland in South Holland on Saturday, where a neighborhood party was just going on at the time. Three women and three men, aged between 28 and 75, were killed. Seven others, including children, were injured.
