Italian Elias Iagnemma is the fourth person to conquer the Burden of Dreams boulder. “The hardest route in the world” has now been completed three times in 12 months.
Burden of Dreams boulder Loviisa once again has a new conqueror.
Italian Elias Iagnemma got on top of the boulder at the end of March and roared through the ventilation that split the logging area. He is the fourth conqueror of the boulder.
“Finally! What a night and what a fight. I can't describe this in words. The dream came true,” Iagnemma expressed on Instagram after the success.
For a long time it was assumed that there was only one solution to finding the route, but the latest entrepreneurs seem to have found new tricks.
In climbing circles there is brought upthat in Iagnemma's performance only the first movement corresponds to previous attempts.
Climbing site Vertical-Life in the interview Iagnemma is said to have attempted to climb the route for the first time in 2022, but at that time he was injured.
Last September, Iagnemma, 28, got married and spent her honeymoon in Finland with her spouse. The trip lasted seven weeks.
A month ago, Iagnemma was already close to success, but fell just before the last hold. He had to return home due to bad weather until he returned again and succeeded in a few days.
“This has been difficult because of finger problems, torn skin, bad weather and frustration. I think that success required 20–25 sessions during five different trips. Towards the end it was more of a mental battle. I knew that my strength was enough to succeed,” Iagnemma said.
Iagnemma was there alone at the time of the success. The video shows an outburst of emotion when he finally gets on top of the boulder.
“I started screaming and then ran down to make sure I got it on video. Then I called my wife and parents. They have been a great support,” Iagnemma said.
In total, the Italian spent 80 days in Finland.
“To pass the time, I watched Netflix, walked in the woods and did exercise programs for clients. Rest days were frustrating but rewarding.”
Loviisa the most famous boulder has now been summited three times in the last 12 months. Scottish William Bossi succeeded in the performance a year ago in April and the Belgian Simon Lorenzi climbed the route last December.
The first conqueror of the boulder was a Finnish climber Nalle Hukkataival in 2016. He rose to the top after more than three years of trying.
In bouldering, you climb up low rock walls or boulders. No rope is used, and mattresses placed on the ground under the climber prevent injuries.
