ANDThe president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, demanded this Monday that Argentina immediately remove a series of solar panels installed on a military base close to the southern border between both countries and that have penetrated three meters into Chilean territory.

During his official visit to France, the president revealed that he had briefly discussed the controversy with his colleague Argentine Javier Milei and that Chile’s message was clear: “it is a basic principle of respect between countries and, therefore, they must remove those solar panels as soon as possible or we are going to do it.”
“I mentioned it to President Milei, he told me that he was going to send it to his Minister of Foreign Affairs. I imagine that we are not going to have problems in this regard… What we demand is that this be resolved in the shortest possible time. And I insist, if not, we are going to do it.”
Here what we have to do is respect the borders, that is what we are demanding regarding our territory
“With Argentina we have an excellent relationship between states and it is important to maintain that relationship and not make escalating statements, or try to get creative about this. Here what we have to do is respect the borders, that is what we are demanding regarding our territory,” he stressed.
The minister spokesperson for the Chilean Government, Camila Vallejo, expressed along the same lines hours later, who responded to the Argentine ambassador, Jorge Faurie, that Chile was not willing to wait until the summer, as the Argentine diplomat requested, for the withdrawal of the controversial panels installed in the ‘Maritime Traffic Surveillance and Control Post Milestone 1’.
The construction of the so-called Maritime Traffic Surveillance and Control Post Milestone 1 was carried out on April 29.

Vallejo admitted that Chile had listened to the explanations given by Argentina in which it indicated that it was a simple error but pointed out that “The issues of territorial sovereignty are delicate. Above all, when we talk about the infrastructure of a military base, It is not just any infrastructure.”
“Regardless of the excuse, one would hope that this error would be repaired as soon as possible, and if we do not see that action, we are effectively within our rights to do so ourselves, as a country,” the minister said in statements to a local radio station.
The withdrawal, in his opinion, should occur “during the next few weeks, months, but waiting until the summer is a long time (…) President Boric will see that with the Foreign Ministry.”
“It is a worrying error, we have different levels, and we believe that this can be easily resolved,” he concluded.
