A new act of violence tarnished Argentine football, this time, in one of the matches that determined promotion to the first division.
The game between Quilmes and Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza was suspended before starting the second half, with the score 0-0.
The goalkeeper of the visiting team, Brian Olivera, fell to the ground after receiving a stone and the impact of a stun bomb. The goalkeeper had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.
After what happened, the central referee of the game, José Carreras decided to suspend the match and report what happened to the AFA.
We were about to start the second half and through the intercom I heard a roar. Assistant 1, who was checking the networks, told me ‘They threw a firecracker, a bomb at us,'” the judge told ESPN.
“The goalkeeper accused me that he was dazed, that his leg was shaking, and because of that we have to suspend. Now the disciplinary court will decide,” added the referee.
“HE ACCUSED ME THAT HE WAS STUNNED, THAT HIS LEG WAS SHAKING… BEFORE THAT, YOU HAVE TO SUSPEND.” José Carrera, the referee of Quilmes vs. Gimnasia (Mza) explained what happened with Brian Olivera at the Centennial and how what follows is resolved. @espnfutbolarg pic.twitter.com/lc8EB6YL0w

In the video of the match you can see the central referee showing a Quilmes assistant the stones that were thrown at the Gimnasia de Mendoza goalkeeper.
The Quilmes coach, Ariel Fuscaldo, complained that the Gimnasia goalkeeper did not allow himself to be checked. ”I am not justifying any type of aggression, the firecracker that explodes seems to do so far from the position. But we wanted the doctor to check the player and they refused,” he said at a press conference.
