Film director Carla Simón, awarded a year ago with the Berlinale for her film alcarràs, will form part of the Junts per Catalunya list in Les Planes d’Hostoles (Girona) for the elections on May 28. The Consistory has nine councilors and the screenwriter could also occupy number 10 on the list, according to reports Digital was born. “I join the list as an independent. I am excited about the town project full of ideas designed to include all of us. I am certain and confident that (the mayor) will lead with rigor, intelligence and respect, ”he affirms.

Consulted by phone, the director has been surprised by the commotion caused by her political signing. “I consider myself a person on the left, I think it has been made quite clear in my films, but if you ask me which political party I belong to, I have no answer,” he said about the speculation with his ideology on social networks following the announcement. “My town has 1,700 inhabitants, this year there are three candidacies and one of them is made up of Pablo Odell and a group of people I trust a lot,” she has alleged about the motivation for her decision. “Her program puts the community at the center, expands the educational offer for children and adolescents, stimulates sports and culture, and advocates protecting nature,” she has defended about her inclusion on the lists.
“I think Pablo will do the people a lot of good. We were thinking about various ways about how I could support him, and appearing as the first substitute was a good formula, because clearly I do not have time to act as a councilor, ”explained the director, who was a monitor for Odell’s children, who runs a bar in the town, in her time as a summer school teacher. Surprised that some have taken this decision as a political position (“it’s not,” she says), Simón clarifies that his symbolic signing is framed in local politics, exceptionally. “I am not from Junts and I am not going to join the party. I do believe in this group of people, but I don’t necessarily agree with everything the party says. Despite the risk of misunderstanding, I have decided to support his team as an independent ”, she clarified.

After the death of his parents, Simón went to live with his uncle and aunt in this municipality in the La Garrotxa region, where he lived until he was 17, when he moved to Barcelona to study. In the 2019 elections, in Planes d’Hostoles only one list of Junts participated in the elections, which obtained 82% of the votes.
The news of Simón’s signing has been announced by the head of the Junts list himself, Pablo Odell, who has posted the phrases of the filmmaker herself on the network, joining the list with a photograph of the director. The signing has been celebrated by the party leadership. Jordi Turull, general secretary of the formation, has described it as “excellent news”, “It is great news to be able to count on a person of this talent. Thank you for your involvement”, said the Junts deputy, Salvador Verges.
After three consecutive terms, Mayor Eduard Llorà announced that he was not running for re-election and Junts appointed Pablo Odell, book editor, in December. Marc Puig, current deputy mayor, has broken with the party due to discrepancies in the preparation of the list and has announced his own candidacy.
