Jaé, the electronic ticketing platform for the urban transport system in the city of Rio de Janeiro, now has a tool in its site which aims to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, allowing access to all content and services in the sector. The features in Libras, voice and +accessibility are easy to understand and have a series of options, including reading guide, image captions, pause animations, inverted contrast and a solution for people with dyslexia to readily navigate the virtual environment.
According to the company’s executive director, Zeca Vianna, the site do Jaé now has 100% adherence to digital accessibility standards. “This advance shows the commitment to creating a fully accessible and inclusive mobility system,” said Vianna. He recalled that Jaé inspires other companies to follow the same path, as it is a reference in innovation and inclusion. “We are breaking paradigms and showing that it is possible to fully integrate technology and accessibility into Rio de Janeiro’s urban routine.”

Bus ticketing
The new ticketing system for urban buses in the city of Rio and other modes, such as BRT and VLT, is in the final phase of implementation. Jaé can be purchased from self-service machines at BRT and VLT stations. The first copy of the card is free and there will be a deposit of R$4.30, an amount that is refunded in the form of credit to the user as soon as they register on the Jaé application (App) associating the customer’s account.
The application is also used to pay for transport tickets, after generating a QR Code on your cell phone. In addition, you can check your balance and top up using a credit card, bank slip or PIX. Jaé also allows the VLT user to pay for more than one person’s ticket, eliminating the need for a card for each individual and facilitating use by families and tourists.
Card recharge can also be done through accredited establishments, App, site and self-service machines. Credits are automatically released as soon as bank authorization is issued. The credits do not expire, but the card must be associated with the Jaé application.
The App is in full operation on VLT and BRT and with 100% of validators installed on municipal buses. Validators are being connected to specific lines of some companies in the system and will gradually advance to cover 100% of the operational fleet. Vans and little goats (community public transport system) already have 55% of validators installed.
Integration between all modes in the city of Rio de Janeiro will occur gradually, as all validators are connected. The deadline for replacing Riocard with Jaé depends on the Municipal Transport Department of Rio de Janeiro. With the advancement of operations in all modes, the transport voucher system will be made available so that companies can migrate from the current system to Jaé gradually and smoothly, in order to avoid setbacks for public transport users during the transition process.
