House of Commons had a minute’s silence; members will speak throughout the day
Members of the House of Commons, part of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II this Friday (9.Sep.2022). THE monarch died on Thursday (September 8), aged 96.
This Friday’s session (September 9) started at 12:00 local time (8:00 am in Brasília), with 1 minute of silence, and should end at 22:00 (6:00 pm in Brasília). Prime Minister Liz Truss and former prime ministers Boris Johnson and Theresa May are present.
Throughout the day, those present will speak about the Queen’s legacy and offer solidarity to the royal family. Activities will be interrupted during the broadcast of King Charles III’s 1st speech.
In her speech, Truss said that Elizabeth “was one of the greatest leaders the world has ever known”. She highlighted “the most sincere” expressions of condolence seen since news of the queen’s death broke.

Queen Elizabeth II’s last official act was the appointment of truss, on Tuesday (6.Sep). According to the premier, the queen shared her “deep government experience” during the meeting.
“She remained determined to fulfill her duties even at age 96. It was just 3 days ago, in Balmoral, that she invited me to form a government,” Truss said.
“As we meet today, we are reminded of the promise she made on her 21st birthday: to dedicate her life to service. The entire House will agree, never has a promise been so completely fulfilled.”
The House will meet again on Saturday (September 10), the day Charles will be officially proclaimed King.
“All of us in this House will support him as he leads our country into a new era of hope and progress.”, declared the prime minister. “The crown resists. Our nation resists. And in that spirit, I say God save the King.”
Labor Party leader Keir Starmer said that “this is a deep and private loss for them [família real], but it’s one we all share because Queen Elizabeth has created a special, personal relationship with everyone.” the members of Parliament.
